TRIBUTES have been paid to Cllr Michael Roberts who died last weekend. Mr Roberts served on Okehampton Town Council for more than six and a half years after being elected in 1999 and successfully retaining his seat four years later. He previously served as chair of the council?s policy and resources committee and represented the town council on the liaison group with the borough and county councils. Cllr Christine Marsh said: ?Mike was a very intelligent man. Sometimes he could be quiet in council meetings, but them he would chip in with some words of wisdom.? Cllr Marsh said Cllr Roberts was very ?conscientious? about working for the future of Okehampton and enjoyed the work of the council. ?It is very sad that we have lost one of our local characters, with his distinct style of dress and his vintage car.? Mr Roberts, 60, lived in Northfield Road and was an employee of Devon County Council in Exeter.
