CHILDREN?S charity CHICKS will be celebrating the grand opening of its ?new nest? in Brentor with a day of activities. The Moorland Retreat is the charity?s second centre in the West Country, providing free respite breaks to disadvantaged eight to 15-year-olds. Starting from 11am on Saturday, September 23 the day will involve activities for all the family, including circus skills, pony rides, disco dancing and displays from Kiteflying. With the opening of its new centre, CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) aims to provide fun and positive respite breaks for at least 1,000 children every year. To achieve this the charity will need to raise £1-million annually. By reaching this target it will be launching the ?CHICKS Million Memories Appeal? at the official opening of its new headquarters. Since the charity began in 1992 it has cared for more than 4,500 disadvantaged children who may have been abused, been living in poverty or suffering from neglect. Its aim is to improve the children?s sense of self-worth and confidence. During the children?s long break at CHICKS they receive as much care, attention and support as possible. They enjoy a wealth of experiences from pony trekking to rock climbing and develop long lasting friendships. To support CHICKS ?Million Memories Appeal? contact Elanor Hoskin on 01822 811020.
