OKEHAMPTON Golf Club had a qualifying medal on August 4.
Weather conditions were good with the scores reflecting this. Cherry James won the silver division with a net 66; Marcia Holwill second net 70. The bronze was won by Maureen Howe with 67, bringing her down to 36hcp. Second was Doris Jewell net 76.
Also that day a team of Okehampton ladies went to Wrangaton Golf Club to play in their Open. Dawn Phillott, Sylvia Caunter, captain and Jenny Hutchinson won fourth prize and Dawn also won the longest drive on the 9th hole.
Friday August 6 saw the Sheelah Creasy team playing their last match of the current campaign, at Dartmouth, where they put up a good fight. Gladys Thatcher and Lorna Rolfe won their matches but the team unfortunately lost 5-2.
This team has made a brave effort this year, as a lot of the players have been lost to the silver division.
Woodbury Park have won through to the finals with four wins and two losses. Okehampton were close with three wins and three losses.
The Still Cup team were just beaten to the finals by East Devon, who scored 101 points, Okehampton were second with 87, third Stover 84. Teignmouth gained the fourth runner up place, narrowly beating Okehampton on countback.
