THE fundraising efforts of Year 1 pupils at Okehampton Primary School prompted a pair of special visitors to come to the school on Monday.

Chris Dannan and Terry Rogers from Loving Homes Dog Rescue brought Dave, a greyhound and Staffordshire bull terrier cross, and Buster, a bull terrier and boxer cross, into school to meet the children to say thank you for supporting the centre.

Youngsters raised £45 to donate to a local animal charity by making dog biscuits, which were then sold at the Okehampton Pet Supermarket.

After children chose to support the Loving Homes Dog Rescue in Winkleigh, the money was used to buy bowls, dog beds, toys and treats for the centre, presented to Chris and Terry in a Christmas hamper.

Chris said: 'It's a wonderful amount that the children here have raised, and all the treats in the hamper will be gratefully received by our dogs, I am sure.'

Dave and Buster are two of 15 dogs currently being looked after by the rescue. It relies on public donations and support to help rescue as many healthy dogs in local pounds from being put down as possible. To find out more, visit http://www.lovinghomedogsrescue.co.uk">www.lovinghomedogsrescue.co.uk
