FOUR Mid Devon Pony Club girls headed off to Truro for the first tetrathlon of the season, which was run by the Four Burrow PC. Charlotte Rowe competed in the senior girls and Lottie Trerise, Lucy Almond and Rosa Malseed in the intermediate class. The shooting phase found the winter cobwebs not yet blown away, as all four girls had some difficulty in locating the targets! However, things improved in the pool as Lottie had the best swim in her class and Charlotte the third best in the seniors. The running phase took place in the teeth of a gale, but the Dartmoor bred girls battled through the wind to produce some great times, with Charlie having the best senior run. The horses were all full of beans for this first outing of the season and heavy overnight rain had made the course at Chyverton seem more daunting. There were only three clear rounds in the seniors and Charlie did well to conjure a fine round out of her horse Shanto, which  moved her up into a well earned third place. Lucy was riding her mother's hunter across country for the first time and he obviously needed the sound of a hunting horn to get the best from him. Lottie was also tackling X-C fences for the first time on her new horse. Rosa's mare, Khali, proved another speed merchant and was still pulling like a train as she finished her almost faultless round. The girls had started the new season in style with Lottie finishing third in the intermediates with Rosa just 36 points behind in sixth place.
