DARTMOOR Forest Parish Council has just completed a consultation with its residents about the impact of the Dartmoor Classic Cycling Sportive on the parish and its residents.

The parish of Dartmoor Forest in central Dartmoor aligns approximately to the medieval Royal Forest of Dartmoor. The parish is the largest in Devon, stretching from Peter’s Cross in the south to Winter Tor in the north and from Merrivale in the west to Dartsmeet and the Warren House Inn in the east and covering about 56,000 acres.

Surveys asking residents for their opinions about the event that was held in June this year, were hand delivered to every household in the parish and the facility to submit responses online was available on the parish council website www.dartmoorforestpc. net

A spokesperson for the council said: ‘The parish council would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to complete the survey. This consultation has generated a lot of interest in the parish and among the wider cycling community.

‘The parish council would like to reiterate the objective of the survey; we would like to know how people who live in Dartmoor Forest Parish feel about the event so we can talk to the organisers on behalf of the whole parish and represent all your views.

‘In recent years the parish council has received concerns and complaints from some residents about the event and we wanted to know how widespread this feeling was.

‘This consultation is not about a particular sport or pastime — indeed. many in the parish are keen and enthusiastic cyclists — but about a specific large event that goes through the parish. The council would equally seek residents’ views on any issue or event that we believed had a wide impact across our community.

‘We recognise that maintaining the balance between those who live, work and visit Dartmoor can sometimes present challenges; however what we hope unites us is the love and appreciation of this very special part of the world.’

The survey results will be compiled and shared for the next parish council meeting on October 27.
