Duchy Premier Lamerton 3 St Merryn 2 LAMERTON produced their worst half of football this season, which saw bottom of the league St Merryn lead 1-0 at the break through Steve Rudd. The goal came after 20 minutes, when the Lamerton defence failed to clear and watched Rudd find the bottom corner. Lamerton missed a couple of golden chances early on and Rich Searle, Simon Kelly and Kev Swift were all having an off day in front of goal, however, Lamerton managed to scrape a win with three goals in the second half. They equalised ten minutes after the re-start when some neat and simple passes across goal reached Steve Roast on the left hand side, unmarked, for an easy tap in. It looked as if the home side would coast on for the win as they began to dominate, but a chipped ball up field by St Merryn saw Dave Byworth nudge his man in the box, enough to warrant the referee's whistle. Rudd stepped up to regain St Merryn's lead from the spot. Panic time for Lamerton and a reshuffle saw Dan Healy move up front and James Healy move into centre midfield and the results came instantly. Dan Healy received a throw-in on the edge of the St Merryn box, accelerated away from his marker and fired an equaliser into the bottom corner. Five minutes later Swift and James Healy combined in midfield to put through Dan Healy for his second and Lamerton ahead for the first time in the match. Some shaky moments, more poor finishing and a clean run on goal for St Merryn very nearly led to an equaliser, but Lamerton held on for a scrappy win. l On Saturday Lamerton are: away to Dobwalls, kick off at 2.30pm.
