A YOUNG boy, who put on his own shadow puppet show over Christmas to raise money for charity, has presented a cheque for £501 to his CLIC Sargent nurse.
Daniel Bruce, 9, who is recovering from a bone marrow transplant after being diagnosed with leukaemia, raised the money by performing a one-man nativity puppet show and charging friends, family and neighbours for tickets.
Daniel, from Dousland, has since been overwhelmed with donations from people who did not attend the puppet show but wanted to support him in his fundraising.
Daniel also filmed himself acting out his version of the Tragic Death of Pyramus and Thisbe from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and uploaded the film onto YouTube. He has added a link from the film on Youtube to his own fundraising page to raise more money for CLIC Sargent and the Derriford Children's Cancer Service.
Daniel said: 'I wanted to raise all of this money because I wanted to give special thanks to CLIC Sargent Bristol and to Petra and the other CLIC nurses, for all their help and support. Sam's House in Bristol was great and made a huge difference to me and my family. It was opened by Gary Lineker, and called Sam's House after a boy called Sam, who had what I had — leukaemia, and he also had to have a bone-marrow transplant.
'I also want to give special thanks to Dr Ward and his team and the Derriford Children's Cancer Service for all they have done for me and my family.
'I also want to thank my family, friends, neighbours, the community of Dousland and Meavy, Meavy Church of England Primary School, South and West Devon Personalised Learning Service, the congregation of Meavy Church for their prayers, the Times and everyone who has given so generously to my fund.'
