PETER Tavy is gearing up for its annual village fayre, to be held on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27. Starting at 2.30pm, the traditional fayre has something to entertain all the family in a beautiful setting on the edge of Dartmoor. In and around the village hall and chapel, visitors will find traditional games , including skittles and a coconut shy plus delicious home-made refreshments. Stalls include plants and garden; home-made cakes; jams and preserves; Granny?s attic and books. There will be demonstrations of traditional skills, fascinating displays and a grand prize raffle, tombola and a duck race down the Colley Brook river running past the chapel and hall. New this year is a grand village flag competition, so look out for unusual and original flags flying around the village. During the afternoon, the three-mile ?Peter Tavy Plod? run will start at 3.30pm from the square ? for more details, contact Dave Chanter on 01822 810598. The fayre will host the seventh annual meeting of the ?Dartmoor Teddy Bears? Dangerous Sports Association?. Previous years have seen teddies bungee jumping from the church tower; speeding down a commando-style ?death slide?; being launched from a medieval siege catapult; flying in a rocket; ski jumping and wing walking on a barn-storming biplane ? come and see what they get up to this year! The fayre will finish with a ?Pasties and Quiz Evening? in the village hall. Proceeds from the event will be split between Peter Tavy Village Hall, church and chapel.
