A SLIGHTLY saucy line dancing calendar has been produced in aid of Help for Heroes, featuring some dancers from West Devon.
Yvonne Rainer from Crapstone, one of the dancers featured in the calendar, said she wanted to do something to help injured service personnel as her daughters both had partners in the forces.
One daughter, Louise, took the photos for the calendar. Her partner is a Royal Marine and returned from Afghanistan with an injury, although he has now returned to active service.
'It brings it more home to you when there is a family connection,' Yvonne said.
The calendar is entitled 'The Seven Belles', although one of the 'belles' is a man! Several of those posing come from the Crapstone/Dousland area.
The full list of those included is Yvonne Rainer, Adi Daish Jenkins, Jean Whitburn, Judith O'Connell, Jackie Brill, Gail Biddulph, and Mike O'Brien.
Three members of the Tamar Valley Westerners — Lawrence Lennox, Ray Jago and Jimmy Esby — came along on the day of the photoshoot and helped out as well. They also brought the backdrop.
The calendars are £7.50, with all proceeds going to Help for Heroes.
Yvonne is also organising line dances and other events over the coming year, assisted by some of her fellow dancers and line dancing instructor Hayley Masters, who runs classes in Tavistock and Crownhill among others.
The first of the charity dances takes place at the Royal British Legion in Crownhill on November 28 and will feature Billy Curtis, a well-known line dancer from Newton Abbot. There will be a further line dance at the Sutton Memorial Hall in St Budeaux on January 16.
Yvonne said she would like to hold a line dance in Tavistock or other areas of West Devon in aid of the charity, but was reliant on being offered a hall free of charge.
The village hall in Buckland Monachorum will be the venue for an exhibition of paintings by Yvonne on January 9 from 10am to noon. Paintings will be available at competitive prices in aid of the charity.
Other events planned for the coming year include a 1960s music evening.
Tickets for the dances are £8 with all the takings going to Help for Heroes. They will be available on the door.
To order a calendar, for more information on any of the events, or if you can offer a hall free of charge for another eveng, call Mrs Rainer on 01822 854722 or 07955 667502.
