THE girls at Tavistock Rugby Club started the new season with a difference this week when they were put through their paces by a top professional ? dancer! Dan Lowenstein is part of the 2face dance group, who has just returned from the famous MTV Awards where he was working with top international band the Black Eyed Peas. Dan, who has worked in venues around the world, including London?s Sadler?s Wells Theatre, showed the girls a number of new moves never to be found in the normal rugby coaching manual. He said: ?I know some people might think this is a gimmick, but there are a lot of similarities between dance and rugby. ?In both, you use a huge range of muscle groups and having good balance and poise is essential.? Dan said he thought the girls worked ?really well?. He watched the rest of the training session before leaving the pitch at the end of his whistle-stop stay in West Devon to return to the bright lights ? he is now due to tour Thailand and Singapore. Dominic Bourton, Tavistock RFC girls? coach, said: ?I?ve learned so much this morning. It?s really important to warm up properly and one of the problems Dan highlighted is making sure the group of muscles you first warmed up, aren?t cold by the time you?ve finished the other warm ups!? Tavistock RFC girls train every week on Thursday evenings and on Sunday morning when not playing games. It is hoped the squad will take part in a tour in spring 2007.
