A YOUNG Chagford cricket player has been demonstrating his coaching credentials as one of a handful of students from the county selected for a national coaching course. Dale Chadwick, 17, who attends Okehampton College was among 500 students ? and a further 100 teachers ? selected to attend a four day coaching course at Loughborough University. The course focused on multi skills and sports work with young children leading up to a Community Sports Leader Award. The students were also given one day to specialise in a favourite sport of theirs. Dale chose cricket, he currently plays for Chagford?s first team and the college team. Dale is a keen bowler, but also enjoys football coaching too. Dale is now nearly halfway towards completing the 200 hours of work needed to gain a Sports Leader Gold Award. Dale says he would also like to gain ECB Level 1 and 2 coaching certificates. He is interested in making a career in teaching or sports coaching. Dale said he had enjoyed the coaching course at Loughborough. ?Everyone was outgoing. There were people from all around the UK and even some from America. It was good because everyone had different ideas and it was helpful to share and relate back to each other,? he said. School sports co-ordinator Bernie Hachipuka said she was ?really proud? of Dale for gaining his certificate on the course. ?Dale had to apply for the course and I was pleased he was chosen,? she said. ?I think he was a bit nervous before he went, but he really enjoyed it and hopefully he will continue with his coaching in cricket and football,? added Bernie.
