THERE was a sea of yellow blooms as Kelly House played host to its first Daffodil Day recently.
For one day visitors could not only admire the daffodils but pick their own blooms too with all funds raised from the sale of the daffodils going to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Kelly House, for many years after the second world war until the closure of the railways, was sending cut flowers to London. There are still many daffodil bulbs in the garden field and organiser Sophia Kelly was glad they could be used to generate much needed funds for cancer care.
The Kelly family were able to provide a 60-year-old bunching frame, with a quick lesson from Warin Kelly, who remembers using it to bunch the flower more than 50 years ago.
The volunteers were soon bunching daffodils like professionals and producing four-tier bunches to create brilliant displays.
The Kelly family expressed thanks to everyone who visited on Daffodil Day and helped to raise more than £150 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The family hopes to run the event again next year.
