NIKKIE Gawman became only the sixth lady to win the Hampshire Cup in its 80 year history at Tavistock Golf Club. In 1928 the Second Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment donated to Tavistock Golf Club a cup to be presented to the winner of a knock-out competition for both men and ladies.  The first lady winner was in 1939, four more ladies followed, the last in 1966.  Nikki Gawman became the sixth lady to win this prestigious trophy with a win of of 2 & 1 over John Harding. Bev Ruth and Elaine Cooper had a resounding victory in the second round of the Doris Willes Little Trophy, beating Thurleston 5 & 4 at Wrangaton.  The date and venue for the third round has yet to be announced. Warm sunshine and blue skies produced good results in the Warren Crocus played in conjunction with the monthly Stableford.  In the silver division first was Elaine Cooper with 36 pts; 2, Fran Horton, 34 pts.  In division two  Sally Timpson won on countback with 37 from Patty Congo.  Wendy George won division three with 38, second Val Facey with 22pts. Tavistock will be represented at Dawlish Warren in September by Elaine Cooper, Maggie Hillman, Sally Timpson and Wendy George. In the monthly medal Trudie Luke won the silver division with a net 76 with runner-up, Penny Deacon, on 77. In division two first was Liz Loosmore, net 72,  second Rosemary Rae, net 73.  The Marilyn Allen Trophy, played with the medal competition, is for past lady captains and was won by Jan Walls with a net 75, runner-up was Marjorie Green with net 80. In the men's monthly Stableford Steve Thackham won division one with 37 pts; second was Robert Lowell with 35 pts; third was David Johns on 34.  In division two Paul Congo won on countback with 34 from Colin Gentry;  third was David Bryant with 33. In division three first was Steve Fowler with 38, second Marc Ninnis on 36 and third John Tattersall on 34.         In the Shotgun Foursomes Medal the winners were Alan Pope and Paul Congo with net 71.5.  Keith Klein and Phil Philott with a net 72 won on countback from Simon Bridgewater and Dick Stead.  Played in cold, wet and windy weather  the 'Mail on Sunday' team did not fare well in their second round match when they suffered a heavy defeat by Holsworthy. Scoring in the men's open 3BBB was close; the winners, Max Clarke, Tom Dodd and Alan Gawman, coming in with 133.   Second with 136 were Dave Burge, Graham Ruth and Shaun Kiely and third Chris Botterill, Peter Keith and Bob Tye.  l ADAM Bridgewater and Wesley Dawkins from Yelverton Golf Club were in the successful Devon county side that beat Gloucestershire by 10 and a half 4 and a half in the Regional Amateur Channel League match played at East Devon Golf Club.
