YELVERTON Bohe-mians Cricket Club continued their warm up for their 50 anniversary season last weekend with a loss and a win.

In both fixtures, players from the club's cricket academy shone.

On Saturday, Plymouth Civil Service CC were the visitors and on a good early season batting wicket in the Spring sunshine racked up a useful total of 225 all-out.  The star bowler for the Bohemians was 19-year-old Iain Cunningham with 7–32 off 9 overs and he was ably supported by Matt Tamsett, Geraint Heath, Jez Stokes and skipper Jason Degg.

In reply, the Bohemians were bowled out for 180, with 14-year-old D Cooper top scoring with an elegant and composed 46.  It was a good time to impress for Cooper as his West Devon U14s coach was playing for the opposition!  Tamsett and Degg both scored breezy 20s but once they were out the innings faded.

On Sunday, the Bohemians travelled to the South Hams to take on Stoke Gabriel CC in another friendly 40 over fixture.  Despite only having 10 players Stoke were dismissed for just 113 with Ben Vince the leading wicket taker with 4-20.  Iain Cunningham 2-11, Kevin Treweeks 2-29, Tony Carter 1-10 and Jerry Warland 1-12 mopped up the rest.

The Bohemian's response started somewhat shakily losing Tim Berry early on, followed by Kevin Beare for a first ball duck.  Tim Rutherford notched up a 15 before being caught at cover and it needed seasoned campaigner Jerry Warland and Kevin Treweeks to stop the rot with a fourth wicket stand of 20.  Once Warland departed with the score on 49 and was followed 14 runs later by skipper Chris Pearson, it was left to Treweeks and 13-year-old Ben Pearson to steer the Bohemians towards victory with a stand of 28 for the sixth wicket.  Treweeks fell for 31, just short of the victory line and Pearson junior (17 n/o) was joined by Ben Vince (7 n/o) to see the team home on 114 – 6.

l Yelverton have a club game on Saturday and Tideford are the visitors to Langton Park on Sunday.

The Bohemians Devon Cricket League campaign starts on Saturday. May 1 with the first XI travelling to Ipplepen and the second XI at home to Chudleigh.  The clubs' third XI also start their Tamar League campaign on the same day with a trip to Calstock.
