THE legendary rock star, self-styled shaman and goddess worshipper Julian Cope, lead singer of post-punk indie band, The Teardrop Explodes, appears at Exeter Pheonix this May. Julian Cope became a cult solo rocker, releasing over 20 albums in two decades, as well as a critically acclaimed author with two volumes of autobiography and the epic 'The Modern Antiquarian' based on his eight-year odyssey in search of the missing links in Britain's pre-historic past. Cope may, too, be the only bona fide antiquarian researcher to have performed on Top of the Pops while on acid, and to have posed naked (for an album cover) beneath the shell of a giant turtle. Pencilled in for early spring 2007, more than twenty albums since the start of his career and sixteen years after his massive hit 'Peggy Suicide', Cope plans to release a new studio album this May. To promote his new album, Cope is embarking on a national tour to the country's more edgy and intimate venues. For his Devon date, he has hand-picked the Exeter Phoenix. Even before his date at the venue was confirmed, the box office was already bombarded with ticket enquiries, so if you don't want to miss this unique opportunity to see Sir Tripalot live on your doorstep on Monday May 14, you'd better hurry.
