IT has been a busy time for Tavistock Golf Club winter tournaments as three of them approached crucial stages.

In the Sir Francis Drake foursomes, illness to Mike Beveridge caused a withdrawal from the quarter-final against Andrew and John Coe. The semi-finals, to be played before March 16 are: B Williams and K M Cole v A Coe and J Coe; J Gawman and A Gawman v. J Tucker and J Ruth.

Nicky Gawman now knows that her opponent in the final of the Hampshire Cup will be David Anthony.

In the Junior Winter matchplay tournament all first round matches are now complete, and the draw of the last eight is: Chris Gawman v Daniel Lowe; Sam Webster v Adam Burbidge; Joe Trembath v Daniel Rosevear; Adam Waddle v Joe Raeburn.

Highlight of the medal events was Graham Ruth?s score of 67, just outside his own course record. It gave him a four-shot cushion over his nearest challengers.

The midweek medal was a close affair with the top six covered by 4 shots : 1, S Kiely (13) 70; 2, A Coe (3) 71; 3 G Ruth (0) 71; 4, M Clarke (18) 73; 5, J Gawman (10) 74; 6, J Gynne (1) 74.
