THE STREETS were buzzing for the annual Honey Fair in Callington as the Times went to press yesterday (Wednesday).

It was the 32nd event of its kind organised by the Callington Lions' Club, which each year raises thousands of pounds for local charities.

Central to the day were the honey competitions and products in the town hall, with everyone making a beeline for the honey cream teas.

A wall of the town hall was decked in colourful displays by 900 primary school children from the area, who entered the art competitions which were 'Cartoon Characters — Self Portrait' and 'Transport of the Future — Road Safety Poster'.

The shop window competition took the theme of 'Memories' this year and added to the street scene, where the plethora of stalls and street entertainment, including fortune-tellers and clowns, brought the town alive.

With Rowlands Funfair, a town crier competition which attracts flamboyantly dressed criers from all over the South West, exhibitions and refreshments, there was plenty to keep the crowds in Callington throughout the day.

This year was the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion and to celebrate the event the Callington branch held an exhibition in the town hall.
