IN a busy few weeks, a number of events have taken place at Hurdwick Golf Club.

Firstly, the midweek stableford competition was won by vice-captain Tim Gale with 37 points. Tony Pearson took second place on countback from Tim Hawkins, both with 34 points.

The only two of the day came from Richard Berry to win the ball sweep.

The monthly medal was sponsored by Beersellers and the men?s winner was Kevin Pugh with an excellent net 64.

Club captain Rodney Browne was in second place with 69 and in third was Phil Bryant with 70.

The ladies? prize was taken by Josie Whitfield with a net 77 and both Elizabeth Raikes and Sally Arscott shot net 78-s. Elizabeth took second place on countback.

A popular annual event is the Past Club Captain?s stableford competition, which is traditionally organised by the current captain.

The 2003 shield winner was David Crofton, with an excellent 38 points.

The trophy was presented by the president, Surgeon Rear Admiral Trevor Hampton, and the past captains were entertained in the clubhouse by proprietors Roger and Sandy Cullen.

The evening concluded with an excellent dinner at Steps Restaurant in Tavistock.

Yet another event resulted from the presentation to the club of a new trophy by past captain Gerry Boyce. The trophy is in the form of an aged golfer and it is Gerry?s wish that it is played for each year by members aged over 60.

The trophy has been named ?The Hurdwickian? and the first winner was club captain Rodney Browne with 40 points. In second place was Tony Pearson with 37 points and Gerry Boyce was well in contention for his own trophy, finishing third with 35 points.

Rodney?s good form continued when he and partner Tim Hawkins won their second round match in the Penina Captains Challenge against the captain and his partner from Truro Golf Club.

Rodney and Tim won three and two and now go into the draw for the third round.
