ON Sunday Tamar and Tavy Gig Club entered a team of under 14s in the county under 14s championships at Copperlake, Hayle, competing against 28 other teams.

The crew, Tara Twine, Rosie Lloyd, Will Stacey, Charlie Fethney, Anya Ansty and Angus Hogg had a brilliant time.

In the first round  they finished fifth out of 28 on timings winning their heat by a good five lengths. Unfortunately they were unable to enter the second round as they had a composite crew with Will Stacey from Caradon filling in as holiday cover. They were then placed in the plate race again unable to win, they finished in 4.20 with their next closest in their heat finishing in 5.43.

Cox Bill Stacey-Norris said: 'They rowed out of their hearts, they knew they would not be allowed to compete in the finals so they went for the time, and at no point backed off. This crew are all between 12 and 13 so they have so much talent to give.'

The next challenge is the London River race for the Under 16s. Mixed training starts next Sunday.
