Crediton 2

ZEAL produced a good performance against a strong Crediton team on Thursday night. Crediton took the lead deservedly after 10 minutes when a good move ended with a good finish from 12 yards.

Zeal went two down after 25 minutes when the ball was cleared after a move down the left but fell to a Crediton midfielder, who gave Reg Wonnacott no chance from the edge of the penalty area.

The Zeal defence and midfield started to get to grips with the Crediton forwards, with new recruits Dan Wakeham and Karl Montgomerie excelling, and with five minutes of the half remaining a cross from Scott Hooper was headed home by Simon Ralph to put Zeal back in the match.

Zeal were the better team in the second half and Harley Cann and Darren Gilbert were giving the home defence all sorts of problems and it was no surprise when Redd Cann equalised from the penalty spot after Harley was brought down in the penalty area.

South Zeal's first friendly was on the previous Saturday away to Axmouth and a good game saw Zeal go down 3-2 after goals from Harley Cann and Scott Hooper had put them 2-1 up with 10 minutes left to play.

Some of the team spent the evening in Seaton and were entertained by Reg Wonnacott who sang his way round many local establishments and a good time was had by all.
