A PRINCETOWN couple who love to play and enjoy traditional folk music are hoping to swell the numbers at a regular evening event they have started to hold in the village.
Jenny and Francis Pine held their first folk evening at the Prince of Wales last November and were delighted when around 16 people turned up to play and enjoy the music.
Jenny said: 'We decided to have one at Christmas and more than 20 people came, which bearing in mind the weather was pretty good.
'We're trying to hold them once a month and now we've had three really nice evenings.'
Jenny said the evenings are free, open to anyone to play, sing or just watch and enjoy traditional folk music.
Francis plays a bodhran, Jenny plays a bowed psaltery — a stringed triangular instrument — and their daughter plays harp and recorder.
Jenny said: 'We go to a folk club in Plymouth, but we thought it would be nice to get something going locally.
'We are trying to organise a day of folk here in Princetown on April 20. We've got some Morris dancers already booked, we're trying to find somewhere large enough for an evening ceilidh and we'd like to hear from anyone who would like to come along.'
Jenny and Francis are hoping to organise workshops on the folk day and hope a wide variety of guest folk artists will come and join the fun.
'We'd like to make it a low-key, local, busy sort of day. We'd just like to get something going in Princetown, ' said Jenny.
The next folk evening will be held in the Prince of Wales at 8pm on February 28.
Jenny said anyone is welcome, the more the merrier, whether they sing, play or just watch.
