TWO Okehampton College students are continuing the strong athletic traditions and hurdling their way to national success.

Amy Stephens has appeared in the recently published UK rankings for Under 13 girls as the third fastest 70-metre hurdlers of the season and as having scored the second highest number of points in any pentathlon.

Although only in her first season of competitive athletics she represented Devon at the inter-counties in London coming second in the hurdles.

Last season, Gemma Collier featured in the UK rankings in five separate events, and this season, in her first year in the under 15 age group, represented Devon in the pentathlon at the England Schools Championships.

Both girls compete regularly in the Women's Southern League for Exeter Harriers and will be competing together in the ALA Indoor Championships in Birmingham in January.
