BBC RADIO Devon presenter Matt Woodley may be forgiven for falling asleep at his desk after completing a 24-hour sponsored broadcast next month.
Matt, from Okehampton, will attempt the feat of on-air endurance for charity on Friday, August 1.
Matt, 29, has pledged to stay on air all day and all night to raise money for BBC Radio Devon?s Chestnut Appeal, launched in January to raise awareness about prostate cancer.
During the 24-hour broadcast, Matt will be discussing the subject, playing music and auctioning prizes. Donations from Devon businesses so far include first class train tickets from First Great Western, a microwave and garden expert Tim Argles has offered to weed one lucky listener?s garden!
Matt said: ?My wife will be on hand with the pizza and milkshake and we?ll produce four-minute news bulletins to give me time to visit the loo. Twenty-ºfour hours is a long time but I?m determined to make it!?
Matt is the latest presenter to step up to the mike on behalf of the appeal. Judi Spiers auctioned her mid-morning show to the highest bidder and sports pundit Gordon Sparks recently held quizzes across the county for the appeal.
Matt was inspired to get involved by the late Major Ronald Ferguson, who appeared on the Judi Spiers show to raise awareness about the disease prior to his death from it.
Matt is asking people across Devon to get involved in his 24-hour challenge by calling 0871 2200325 or e-mailing [email protected]">[email protected]
They can help by requesting a record in return for a donation, ordering a sponsor form or pledging a prize from their business to raffle live on air.
Matt?s 24-hour broadcast starts from midday on Friday, August 1 and runs until midday on Saturday, August 2.
People can also watch the bags under Matt?s eyes growing over the duration of the marathon broadcast from a live webcam in the studio.
