CALLS are going out for a fresh face to join the team at Callington Town Council, now a position has become available following the former portreeve's retirement. Former portreeve Denise Winfindale retired from the council after 13 years of service, and the council is now looking for the vacancy to be filled. The time for a call for election — where ten or more people have to write to the council to request an election — has passed, with no requests received, so now the council has the option to co-opt someone onto the council. Town clerk Helen Dowdall is calling for anyone interested in serving the town as a councillor to apply in writing — especially younger people. She said: 'We would welcome anyone to apply but would particularly welcome interest from the younger generation. We have a gap in councillors in terms of age so it would be nice to have representation from the younger generation of the town. 'Interested people should live or work in the town — either a resident or someone with a very strong connection to the town such as a business.' Anyone interested in applying for the position should write to the council with information about themselves, what they think they could bring to the council, what interests they have and what attributes they could bring to benefit the council by July 21. All applications will be considered at a meeting of the full council the following day, where a selection will be chosen to be interviewed at a later date by the portreeve and the clerk.
