THE history of the Duke of Bedford cottages and Devon Great Consols mine is the subject of a talk at Gulworthy Parish Hall this Saturday.
Dr John Goodridge will give his talk at the invitation of Gulworthy WI which published a book about the parish history earlier this year.
Elizabeth Harding of Gulworthy WI said: 'Many people who were brought up in Bedford cottages shared their memories of life when evening light came from oil lamps, water from the outdoor pump and family and friends in close communities made their own entertainment.
'This pooling of memories has rekindled old friendships stretching back many decades and has led to regular Gulworthy gatherings in the parish hall.'
Anyone is very welcome to join this Saturdays gathering — it is not restricted to WI members. The talk begins at 2.30pm.
