SIX athletes from Tavistock Triathlon Club were slightly relieved, and a little disappointed too, when the sea swim was deemed too dangerous at Padstow Triathlon. Organisers decided turn the event into a duathlon.

The event at Harlyn Bay, became a 5km run, 40km bike section followed by a 10km run. Tim Mitchell stormed away in a fast bike section time of 2hrs.50mins 58secs, while Dave Ruffell romped home in 3.09.44. Nicky Deane Simmons and Clare Short finished in 3.20.28 and 3.23.41 respectively. Lindsay Hobbs crossed the line in 3.32.08 with a beaming smile having had great fun! Chris Garner had a superb event but completed only one of the two required run laps.

Alison Whitford from Tavistock Triathlon Club completed the Weymouth standard distance triathlon. The race involved a 1.5km swim, 40km bike section and 10km run. The sea had two metre high swells, the ride was hilly and challenging, finishing with a run which ended in a steep hill. Ali completed it in 3hrs 15 min.

She said 'I felt extremely sea sick during the swim and swallowed loads of water, but I had so much fun! It was a great day especially as it was my wedding anniversary too!'
