EMERGENCY services will be travelling past Okehampton on the A30 this Sunday, en route to war-torn Kosova. Drivers on the road will be in for an unusual sight as a slow-moving convoy of specially converted emergency vehicles cross Devon. The five vehicles making the 1,850 mile one-way trip are the donations from Rotarians in West Devon, Cornwall and Plymouth, supported by Cornish Mutual and the Cornwall County Fire Brigade in Liskeard. The vehicles? destination is Gjakova ? a village with only one fire engine which is 32 years old and has only one working pump. It is hoped the donated vehicles will transform access to emergency and primary care services in the area. The vehicles include a paramedic vehicle, a mobile doctor?s surgery, a fire engine, a fire incident support vehicle and a heavy goods truck with medical supplies. The convoy will travel through Devon along the A30, passing Okehampton at around noon.
