MANY volunteering opportunities are available at Burrator Reservoir this year for people looking to gain practical experience or just offer a hand in conservation work.
The Practical Conservation and Archaeological Preservation Volunteer Group goes out for two days midweek and a weekend day every month.
Recent tasks have involved charcoal sorting, gorse clearance and coppicing.
Earlier in the year the group also cleared a series of field clearance mounds and a mine adit at Keaglesborough.
This groups next volunteering dates are tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, meeting at 10.30am in the tool yard each day.
No previous experience is needed, just lots of enthusiasm. Instruction, support, tools, hot drinks and biscuits will be provided.
Please wear old, warm and waterproof clothes, sturdy footwear and bring along something for lunch.
The Heritage Interpretation Group aims to research Burrator's unique history and create interpretation to be used in the discovery centre and on site.
This is now under way and volunteers have already researched the dam construction, railway, farmsteads and Longstone Manor.
However, there are still opportunities to get involved with the oral history project and researching medieval settlements and wildlife.
Depending on your interests there are also other activities you could get involved in, including site maintenance tasks, supporting educational visits, organising and delivering themed events, creating new and innovative site-based teaching resources to support future engagement work and a wide range of wildlife surveying.
