TAVISTOCK Golf Club ladies had to contend with strong winds as they battled their way round the golf course in the qualifying round of the Desert Springs Salver. 

The wind did not deter the winners, Sally Timpson and Julie Harding, scoring an excellent 38 points. They go on to play the next round at Okehampton in August.  Second were Dawn Phillott and Ginny Samborne with 34 points.  

Wet and windy weather affected the annual match between the competition secretary and handicap secretary. The ladies managed to play seven holes and the match was an honourable half!  

In the monthly stableford, despite the blue skies, the ladies still faced strong winds. In division 1 Liz Lyndon had a good score of 38 points; second was Chris Leach with 31 points and third was Maggie Hillman with 30 points. Division 2: 1 Wendy George 37 points; 2 Chris Gee 29 points, 3 Lyn Jones 29 points.  Division 3: 1 Gail Reed 31 points, 2 Barbara Chalk 28 points, 3 Jenny Roe 25 points.

The juniors are now well into their season. In a match between the junior captain and junior vice-captain the vice-captain's team, Sam Brockington, Owen Dredge and Will Stenhouse, were victorious in matchplay. 

The novices played a three ball better ball stableford over nine holes. Playing for the captain's team Emma Greening scored 29 points towards their score of 57 points.  Bridie Sampson, playing the for the vice-captain's team, scored 24 points towards her team's score of 48 points. Overall, the vice-captain's team were the winners.

Bill Phillott and Sam Hurdwick will represent Tavistock Golf Club in the next round of the Daily Mail Foursomes having beaten, in a play off, partners Kenny McKenzie and Mark Taylor and Nick Mier and his partner Barrie Mulligan. 

In the monthly medal for the Kanpe Trophy in division 1 Kevin Northcote had a nett 65, second was Colin with nett 67 on countback from Nathan Rivers.  Division 2: 1 Ken Cole nett 65, 2 John Lyddon nett 70 on countback from Robin Rivers.  Division 3: 1 Robert Beveridge nett 70, 2 Steve Fowler nett 72, 3 Simon Bridgewater nett 73.  In division 1 of the mid-week stableford in division 1 Nathan Rivers had 40 points, second Peter Leverton with 38 points and in third place Steve Thackham with 35 points.  Division 2: 1 Robin Rivers 37 points, 2 Richard Wraith 34 points, 3 Jim Horton 34 points.
