A SPECIAL charity musical event involving an international singer is to be held in Tavistock Parish Church next month.

Simon Tunkin, who has played the lead role in Phantom of the Opera in both London and Hamburg, will join Kelly Choral Society for a 'from scratch' performance of Mendelssohn's Elijah.

The concert will be conducted by Andrew Wilson, director of music at Kelly College.

The event is being held to raise money for the Cancer Research Campaign.

Brian Ludford, area fundraiser for Devon and Somerset, said: 'Kelly Choral Society say all voices are welcome on the evening, which is a super idea.

'I am really grateful to them for running this event to raise money for the Cancer Research Campaign.'

Mr Ludford said he hoped 'lots of people' would attend the event and join the singing — taking part costs just £5 for what he described as 'a wonderful experience'.

He said: 'The Cancer Research Campaign is the UK's leading cancer charity but does not receive any government funding.

'Over half of all money spent on breast cancer research is spent by the campaign. That money comes from events and support such as this.'

The concert on May 27 begins at 7.30pm — more details are available from the organisers on 01822 612928 or 01822 852322.
