I'M glad Mr Flack (Letters, September 21) was impressed with the objectors to the Lidl application, but it would be nice if he listened equally carefully to the council.
The members did not vote to give planning permission to Lidl regardless of issues of pollution flooding and wildlife raised by the Environment Agency. They voted to authorise the chief officer to grant 'subject' (from the draft minutes): 'to the submission of further plans detailing mitigation measures aimed at meeting the concerns of the Environment Agency'. I moved the resolution myself.
The officers had previously been warned by me that I thought it very unlikely that any Liberal Democrat member would support the officers' recommendation unless those concerns were recognised. Given a 12 to 11 vote that may have concentrated minds!
