WEST Devon Borough Council last week told town councillors it does not advertise its affordable housing outside of the borough.

The issue was raised after Okehampton Town Council wrote to the borough, expressing concern about reports social housing was being allocated to people from the Midlands ahead of those from the local area.

In a letter of response, the borough?s housing advice team leader stated: ?This local authority does not advertise its social and affordable housing in Birmingham, or indeed in any other area.?

At the town?s plans committee last week, members asked the town clerk to write back to housing officers, asking that first priority be given to West Devon families in the allocation of affordable housing and requesting statistics on the current housing situation in the borough.
