WEST Devon Borough Council took delivery of 18 computers this week — and said it will ensure that any of the machines which they will replace will be put to good use in the community. The delivery is part of a total of 36 new computers the council will be using to ensure it can deliver an 'efficient and economic' service. The council says its computers are replaced every four years, when they run out of warranty. Press officer Alison Stoneham told the Times: 'The council is the smallest in England with just 134 staff, covering geographically the largest district in Devon, and the use of new technology is the most effective and efficient way of delivering our services. Computers are also supplied to our 31 councillors.' 'The old computers are certainly not wasted. We have a list of community and charitable organisations who we give the old computers to for free and these have always been gratefully accepted.'
