WEST Devon composer Jaemus Downing will present the premiere of his new work, 'Nanoorisma', a lullaby with traditional Greek text at a concert in Poltimore House, near Exeter.
The work will be sung by internationally famous mezzo-soprano Claire Powell, who is also from West Devon. She will be accompanied by pianist Joyce Clarke.
The concert, tomorrow (Friday July 16) also involves an evening of classical songs, with works by Purcell, Mozart and Rossini. It starts at 7.30pm in The Chapel, Poltimore House, although the gardens open at 6pm and will be excellent picnic territory, given good weather. Tickets are £10 on the door.
It is Jaemus' third first performance of 2010. The two other works given their first outing this year were the 'Song and Lullaby on a Bareback Ride' , an in memoriam piece for Anne Hooper, and the Toccata and Chorale, written for Mary Mazur-Park.
Jaemus works principally as a swing, jazz and blues pianist in and around this area. Claire has sung in all the great opera houses of the world, from New York to Tokyo, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
