COMPETITORS from all over the South West attended the 34th annual ploughing match in Stoke Climsland at the end of last month.
Launceston and Callington Ploughing Association held its match at Kingston Farm by kind permission of Tim and Bonnie Lightfoot.
President of the association Tim, Bonnie and son Jake had done all things possible to make the day a great success.
Competition was keen as three of the classes were national area finals, with winners going forward to next year's national match.
The match champion was Roland Glanville and the runner up was Mark Williams, both are from St Columb and are past national champions.
Local prize winners included Gordon Farewell, Leon Vanstone, Colin Heard, Dennis Williams, R Ivey and Molly Woodcock.
In the novice vintage class, the winner was Anthony Retallick of Tremaine with Sam Medland of Warbstow second and Matt Young of Tavistock third.
In the local YFC commercial class the winners were a team from Launceston YFC but the individual prize went to Charles Wickett from Duchy College.
The best presentation by local agricultural machinery dealers was won by Cornwall Farmers and the best demonstration plot was won by Vincent Tractors.
The strong tradition of ploughing matches is being well maintained by the local association, and with the active support of competitors, local businesses and the general public, the future looks bright.
