The suggestion of introducing a community speedwatch group in North Tawton has been revisited by the parish council.

The idea, which was first proposed pre-covid, was put on the back-burner during the pandemic, but is now being reconsidered as a means of tackling speeding in the area.

The council agreed that it would contact the town’s local police officer to discuss the possible introduction of this further.

Cllr Colin Lee said that members of the public would be trained by police officers to use a speed gun and then monitor several areas in the town.

Volunteers would not have the power to issue speeding tickets or warnings but would be able to pass on the results to the police who would then contact any drivers found speeding.
