BACK by public demand, but this time outdoors in the Garden at Torrington 1646 ? weather permitting, otherwise in The Plough ? Ophaboom present Casavanova on Saturday, July 29. In their latest untrue and comic reworking of a classic legend, Ophaboom take on the infamous, scandalous and scurrilous character of Casanova. Using their unique style of hilarious half-masked madness, this internationally touring company presents the story as you?ve never known it before. Thwarted love, unpaid debts and daring deception all collide spectacularly as Ophaboom take liberties with history. This multi-talented group has been described as the theatrical answer to The Simpsons, with their last tour Robin Hood being named in Time Out?s Top Ten shows of the year. They can always be relied on to bring laughter to all ages at their shows with their blend of bawdy physicality and witty word play. Ophaboom have worked with Perrier nominated writer Owen Powell, who co-wrote their 2004 show Burke and Hare, and long-time collaborators Ninnian Kinnear-Wilson and John Broadbent, to create this new romantic comedy for everyone. Casanova will be performed by Geoff Beale, Howard Gayton, Claire Jones, and Sarah Ratheram. Ophaboom was established in 1991 by Geoff Beale and Howard Gayton to develop and tour theatre inspired by the Italian artform of commedia dell?arte. Their irreverent reworking of classic legends have delighted audiences everywhere from Canada to Caithness via Korea and Cornwall. Their most recent touring production, Ophaboom?s Robin Hood, toured the world for three years, including an acclaimed off-West End season, performances at the National Theatre, and various prestigious international festivals. Refreshments will be available at Torrington 1646, but you can bring a picnic ? and do bring seats or blankets. Box office: 01805 624624.
