Intermediate Cup

second round

Millwey Rise

(Axminster) 0

THIS was a gutsy performance from a young Okehampton side who were only able to field ten players.

From the off Okehampton played down the sloping pitch and the home keeper pulled off some fine saves from Tim Shaw and Jason Sandford. The home side did not really trouble Darren Gilbert in goal, who went on to have a confident performance.

The windy conditions did not allow good controlled football but it was Okehampton who played the better. They were rewarded just before the break when Shaw's persistence in chasing down the home defence saw a comical own goal with the two home defenders both kicking the ball before it ended up in the back of the net.

The second half saw Okehampton under pressure but the home strikers were continually thwarted by a stubborn young defence, Lee Gilbert and Mike Harris continually tackled and won their challenges and Chris Wills was outstanding in defence.

The home keeper pulled off a magnificent save from Jason Sandford.

Saturday away to Sandford Peverell, East Devon Cup first round Football Express Cup 2.30pm kick-off.

Intermediate IV

Okehampton Argyle 3rds 1

Mitre Utd 0

THIS top of the table clash was a competitive affair with both teams trying to dominate.

Mitre had most of the early play and after ten minutes were somehow denied from six yards after keeper Neil Clift turned a fierce shot over the bar.

Mitre continued to press but could not find the net.

Okehampton then started playing controlled football and were rewarded when Robbie Sandercock scored after some good work from Blatchford, Drew and Whately.

With Okehampton having the advantage of the slope in the second half, Wilson and Tolley shackled Mitre's forwards but with only a slender lead were wary of the counter attack.

Neither side could convert their remaining chances and Okehampton were happy to gain ground on their rivals and remain top of the tree.

Man of the match: Neil Clift.

Next game, away to Winkleigh, meet school gates 1.30pm Saturday.
