AN exciting calendar of events and activities to tempt day visitors to stay and enjoy Dartmoor for longer has been launched by the national park authority.
The Moor to Stay For initiative runs from September 1 to November 30 and includes themed heritage, wildlife and navigation weekends, a programme of extended guided walks and many other action-packed recreational activities. There are also some special bargain accommodation deals to be had.
Jeff Haynes, the DNPA?s director of understanding and enjoyment, said: ?Many people find Dartmoor at its best in the autumn and this year we have something, somewhere, for everyone to enjoy. To take full advantage of our Moor to Stay For programme, we know many visitors will want to stay overnight, or even longer.
?That is why I am suggesting to them that, together with their usual sturdy boots and sensible clothing, they also bring an overnight bag.?
?Moor to Stay For also gives many local businesses and accommodation providers an excellent platform on which to develop their own marketing campaigns and initiatives,? he said.
Philip Davies, chairman of Dartmoor Tourist Association, said: ?We are delighted with Dartmoor National Park?s Moor to Stay For initiative, which is why many of our members are promoting special accommodation offers during this period.
?When visitors see how much there is to enjoy on Dartmoor this autumn they will want to stay longer, which will be a welcome boost for Dartmoor?s economy at this time of the year.?
A free, full-colour Moor to Stay For handbook is now available from national park information centres, tourist information centres, libraries and other outlets or by calling Dartmoor Tourist Association on 01822 890567.
