A NEW facility for recycling scrap is due to open on Tuesday, April 20, with an invitation to everyone to go along and see what is available.
The Tavistock Community Scrapstore will be based at the Molly Owen Centre in Pixon Lane and will open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 3pm, or at other times by arrangement.
On the first day there will be a cup of coffee and biscuits on offer to visitors, who will have a chance to see the scrap materials on offer.
Organiser Sally Christopher said visitors would also be able to buy art and craft materials and equipment at very competitive prices at a craft shop on site.
?A warm welcome is extended to all, whether they wish to become members or not ? although we hope that they will take advantage of this great new community resource for the Tavistock area,? she said.
The store will have interesting junk, offcuts and scrap people can collect to re-use for art and other creative projects. This will be collected from local traders, businesses and individuals. Items welcome include brightly coloured plastic bags, fabric or wool remnants, pots, unused ceramic tiles, cereal packets and string, rope, wire or cable.
Anyone can use the store, including nurseries, schools, community groups, artists and families. There will be a membership fee, which will be £10 a year for groups or organisations, £5 a year for families or individuals. A day card at £2 will also be available.
A programme of workshops and exhibitions run by local artists is also being planned.
The scrapstore is a community project from the Integrated Arts Group and is supported by WestDEN and West Devon Borough Council. For further information contact Sally Christopher on 01822 612981.
