ORGANISERS of Bishopsmead play park are hoping for good weather and a few willing volunteers next week when they hold their community planting event.

The play park is due to be transformed with plants and shrubs, which have been purchased thanks to a grant from the BTCV People?s Places award scheme.

Tina Hurford, chairman of the playpark committee, said Tavistock and District Conservation Group was due to come and help with preparation work at the beginning of the week.

On Wednesday, children from Whitchurch School are coming to help plant the shrubs out, with youngsters from the pre-school group lending a hand on Friday morning.

On Saturday, Tina hopes residents from Bishopsmead will come along to finish the planting.

?We have all the plants ? we just need people to donate a little bit of help and time ? it doesn?t matter how small,? said Tina, who advised volunteers to wear their wellies and bring a shovel or trowel if possible.

The play park committee has been fundraising for three years to equip the park with fencing, picnic benches and toddler play equipment.

So far, the group has attracted funding from the borough council, McDonald?s in Tavistock, the National Lottery?s Awards for All scheme and the county council.

The play park planting on Saturday November 8 takes place at 10am.
