WELCOME in the dawn with Tavistock Sings! Merrivale Dawn Chorus on Saturday May 1.

As part of the Tavistock Music and Arts Festival, people will gather at Merrivale Stone Circle, Dartmoor, to sing and dance to medieval instrumentalists Elvin, playing hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes and percussion.

During the chorus, a minute's silence will be held in memory of Hamish Miller, who helped set up the dawn chorus in 2005, and Gill Gorbutt who gave support in getting the chorus running.

At the event, a stone will be selected for the stone carrying project, which this year involves schools north of Dartmoor.

The dawn chorus starts at 5.15am and will be followed by an English breakfast at the Wharf in Tavistock.
