Columbines 2 Dartmouth Ladies 1 THIS was Okehampton Ladies? first league match following their success in going up last season. Despite heavy rain it was a fast moving game and Okehampton clearly benefited from their coaching and fitness training. They were unlucky to be 1-0 down at half-time as they had held the majority of the play. The second half started with a bang of energy. Within minutes the ball was in the back of Dartmouth?s goal but was disallowed as the umpire had whistled for a short-corner against Dartmouth as the ball was struck. Okehampton kept up the pace and Jo Moppett found her way around the defence to score the equaliser. Dangerous breaks by Dartmouth kept the team on its toes. Strong teamwork with flexible working among all Okehampton?s players gave Okehampton the definite edge. Abi Colton, Carol Taylor and Jane Jones did some excellent blocking and attacking passing. Sandy Douglas and Jennie Humphry demonstrated considerable ball control and determination. As backs they led the attack in some instances showing how Okehampton?s play has developed in confidence and style. This creative team play led to Okehampton?s second and winning goal as short taps around Dartmouth?s circle allowed Captain Alex Collins to make that final touch past the goalie. l Columbines play their next league game away against Paignton Saturday.
