Okehampton Columbines 2

Tavistock 0

TAVISTOCK had the upper hand early on but the Okehampton defence remained solid under pressure with Judith Grant having to make a number of saving tackles.

Tavistock?s Sue Gawman made some excellent runs through the middle and worked well with Kath Collar and Steff Mills to create numerous goalscoring opportunities. Becky Hutton, Sue Hornby and Gawman made some good passes down the left and forced Okehampton wide, allowing Sue Cork to penetrate the D.

Babs Horton and Fiona Dunn worked well in defence and although, at times, it looked like Tavistock could have been in trouble, keeper Rebecca Creasy gave some good calls, which prevented goals.

Okehampton began to find their game just before half-time and picked up the pace in the second half.

Caroline Friend and Georgina Geikie worked hard to obtain possession in midfield to feed the Okehampton attack.

Kelly Cooper?s solo runs through the middle of the pitch caused problems for Tavistock as did player of the match Sue Stanbury?s hard driven balls into the circle.

Okehampton?s first goal was scored when Stanbury?s strike from a corner was deflected in by Jo Moppett and the right goalpost.

Tavistock?s Emma Bowden picked up the pace and when she and Sue Cork worked together down the right wing they made some good crosses into the D.

Columbines had a number of chances but Tavistock were dangerous on the break and left back, Debbie Pritchard, and goalkeeper Sharon Stephens had to be alert to prevent them scoring.

A fine combined move between the three forwards in the closing minutes sealed the match for Okehampton.

This week Columbines are at home against Dawlish in the Devon cup.

Tavistock this week play Plymouth University at home with a 12.30pm push back.
