BOTH Mount House Colts rugby teams were in away action at Stover Prep last weekend, and both came away with decisive victories.
The Mount House Colts A XII team played its best half of competitive rugby so far this term, taking charge of the match from the first whistle. Full back Joe Beck joined the line regularly and used his pace and elusive changes of direction to score a hat-trick of tries. Tom Kidner benefitted from good handling to score the fourth. Jonty Walliker converted three of the tries. The second half was more evenly balanced, and the Mount House boys made too many handling errors. The final score was Stover 0 Mount House 26.
Despite the fact that the B game was played on a waterlogged pitch, the Mount House boys gave a very encouraging performance. Their domination at the rucks ensured a good supply of ball. The back line made frequent breaks through the Stover defence, and the looping support play from the backs enabled Mount House to score eight tries, through Hunter Strand (4), Finlay Rose (2), Jack Sharp and Marcus Watson. This was a great effort particularly from Finlay and Hunter, but special mention is due to George Stubbs, who made several fantastic tackles.
It was a very good team performance, resulting in a 42-12 victory for Mount House.
