Okehampton Colts 22 Launceston 13 IN a closely fought match between Okehampton Colts and Launceston both sides showed excellent forward skills. Launceston were in command in the first quarter and opened with a try after three minutes from loose ball in the Okehampton 22. They were unlucky not to add more points but were denied by fierce tackling from Luke Webb and Keith Jones on the flanks and also Stewart Down at full back and Andy Lewis in the centre. Okehampton?s backs were very sharp once they got good ball with Gary Sizmur and Ben Woolams on the wings taking the opposition on the outside and Tom Powell surging through the middle. Chris Searle scored the first of his two tries from a rolling maul and the second with good support play after a storming run from Woolams after he fielded a defensive kick from Launceston. Stewart Down converted for the two points. The visitors then showed they could also use the rolling maul from the line out and scored their second try. They added a penalty just before half time to lead 13-12. Launceston found attacking up the slope difficult and only really mounted two dangerous attacks which were thwarted by replacement full back Andy Herrod-Taylor. Ian Sercombe controlled the second half with searching kicks downfield and slick passes to Chris Martin on the crash ball. Simon Quick drove the pack forward and gave good ball to the backs. Okehampton dominated the half using the pack well and scored two more tries in the forwards from Sam Turner and Mike Wannell. ?Man of the Match? Chris Searle crossed the line for a third but was denied the score.
