Okehampton Colts 36

Bideford 0

CONTINUING their fine form from last week?s win, the Okehampton Colts took the game to Bideford from the start.

The forwards won most of the early exchanges with hooker Drew Ellis throwing good line out ball in the strong wind.

Simon Quick, at scrum half, supplied his backs with excellent passes.

The ball was moved wide at every opportunity, despite the wet and windy conditions.

The quality of passing from centres, Mark Shields and Chris Martin, gave the wings plenty of runs.

After 15 minutes Okehampton were awarded a penalty on the Bideford 22 metre line. Good ball retention from the pack put Quick over in the corner to open the scoring.

The forwards grew in confidence with Sam Turner, Simon Cox and Simon Bennett making the hard yards.

Turner was rewarded with a fine try when he took the ball on the wing and stepped inside the defence, converted by Sercombe.

This was followed by a break from Sercombe and the ball was fed down the line to full-back Stu

ewart Down, who went over for the third try, also converted by Sercombe.

Minutes later Sercombe scored and converted another try after a fine run by Chris Searle, now looking really confident in this improving Colts team.

The second half saw the pressure being turned up on Bideford. Mark Shields, having an excellent game at inside centre, ran in two more tries.

At this point coach Fred Bolt made several changes. Bideford sensed a slight slackening of the pressure and fought hard to score for the remainder of the game.

Keith Jones was the pick of the substitutes, making some superb try saving tackles.

Exeter Saracens U13?s 0

Okehampton U13?s 57

THIS was a very good win by the whole Okehampton team. Darcy Heard opened the scoring with further trys from Rob Stepto, two from Kevin Dennis and another from Heard, plus three conversions by Andy North to make the score 31 - 0 at the break.

The second half saw Exeter raise their game to make the match more of a contest but with North leading the visitors? defence, the home side were unable to pass the Okehampton tacklers.

It was however mid-way through the half before Stepto was able to score his second, followed by a try from Will Hawkin, plus another each for Stepto and Heard to complete their hat-tricks, with North adding three more conversions.

This week the U13s are home to Cullompton.

Okehampton U11s 33

Saracens U11s 35

WITH Exeter Saracens winning early exchanges, they soon went two tries up. Chris Courtier pulled one back with a well deserved try. Matt Johns? pace was too much and he scored the first of his three tries.

With both teams playing good rugby, Buster Francis went through Saracens? defence to score a good try. Felix Gardner, Henry Cooper and Lloyd Heard put in an excellent performance which made this an entertaining game to watch.
