Devon Colts League
Okehampton Colts 38
Paignton Colts 6
THIS was a promising start to the season in the league for Okehampton, who have been moved from the northern to the southern division of the Devon leagues.
It was bit of a scrappy game with several cards being issued to both sides by the referee as Paignton struggled to cope with the Okehampton forward power, especially in the front row where Scott Simpson, Brad Hudson and Mike Panton gave their opposite numbers a hard time and took several balls against the head in the scrums.
Okehampton got off to a flying start scoring a try within the first five minutes from a lineout catch and drive, Will Heard cleverly seeing the blind-side was clear, made the break and had a simple run-in to score. This was soon followed when number eight, Will Hawkins, picked up from a five metre scrummage and dived over beside the post.
The third try was again scored by Will Heard at the back of a driving maul.
The second half saw fly-half Kevin Dennis, centres Carl Poynton and Rory Honeychurch create the space out wide for both wingers to score – Jamie Stevens (2) and Callum Ausden.
Carl Poynton converted four.
