Devon League — Whitchurch

Wayfarers v Kingskerswell

WHITCHURCH were unable to produce a second mammoth run chase in two weeks in this match.

The visitors batted first, adding 87 for the first wicket, before Chapman holed out to MacDougall off the bowling of Tamblin (2-73) for 30. Hook continued to ride his luck, aided by some dropped catches to make his second century of the season. In partnership with King, they added an unbeaten 132 for the 4th wicket in just 13 overs. King 84 not out and Hook carrying his bat for 123.

Once again, Whitchurch started their innings slowly. Hall and Hodge steadied the ship before Hodge was out for 27. Elliott and Hall then added 63 for the fifth wicket. Hall was finally out to a good catch on the boundary for 72, his highest league score to date.

Whitchurch then bedded in for a well deserved draw to close on 172 for 7. Two wickets apiece for Harding and Noble.

This week Whitchurch are home again when they entertain Ivybridge.

Whitchurch v

Plymouth Civil Service

Whitchurch's Sunday side gave a good account of themselves against a strong team from Civil.

The visitors were asked to bat first and found runs hard to come by against Reeve (2-34) and Alford (1-32). The fall of wickets brought Bayliss to the crease. He scored a quickfire 33 before being bowled by Harding. Smith was out of the last ball of the innings for 50, as Whitchurch restricted Civil to 188 for 7 with some fine fielding.

In reply, the pick of the Whitchurch batting was Colt Lawrence Evans. He scored 49 before being stumped off Ross (2-32). Sutton also batted well, scoring 37 in the lower order. However, the tail did not wag long enough to save Whitchurch from defeat, as they went down by 24 runs.
